“‘BOMBSHELLS AND DOLLIES’ is 2020’s first great documentary” – Victims and Villains
“A very classy documentary indeed as we follow some of the nicest, sweetest girls you’re ever likely to see on camera.” – Back to the Movies
“You may laugh, you may cry but one thing you won’t be able to do is look away,” Victims and Villains.
From three-time award winning writer/director/producer, Dan Halperin (Rosemary, Road Kings), BOMBSHELLS AND DOLLIES is a feature Pinup documentary that examines the lives of contemporary women who emulate the style and fashion of the 40’s & 50’s, while competing in the most heralded Pinup contest in the world, championing self-expression, self-confidence and body acceptance.
“The documentary delves into how a lot of women came to pin-up, explaining that it often attracts women who have gone through trauma or feel that they don’t belong in the modern mold of what is attractive. It also appeals to a large amount of LGBTQ+ individuals who see pin-up, and Rockabilly as a whole, as a safe space,” wrote Provokr.
Based on the story by Dane Pizutti Krogman, BOMBSHELLS AND DOLLIES follows 12 contestants – Rockwell DeVil (Pin Up! The Movie), actor/producer Tom Ingram (The Little Hustle, Death Can Wait, Another Superhero Movie), Bo Huff (Bo Huff A Documentary of His Life, Cars, Music, and Girls), Ginger Watson, Pinup Little Bit and Miss Victory Violet– that journey to Las Vegas, hoping to be crowned “Miss Viva Las Vegas” at the Pinup contest at the Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekend, which is the largest gathering in the world for fans of Rockabilly Music, Vintage Culture and Classic Cars. BOMBSHELLS AND DOLLIES brings viewers into a niche subculture unlike another, showcasing what it takes to successfully compete in the pinup world.
“You may laugh, you may cry but one thing you won’t be able to do is look away,” wrote Victims and Villains.
The Pinup documentary dives deep into the history and evolution of the contemporary pinup, exploring the motivations and stories behind the diverse group of women – as mothers, daughters, employees, volunteers and more. BOMBSHELLS AND DOLLIES is a story of female empowerment, self-confidence, personal goals, celebrating every woman’s unique individuality, embracing all body types, races, sexual orientations and cultures.
“Unlike other beauty competitions, the women of Miss Viva Las Vegas tend to be adult women with established careers who have found pin-up as a creative and emotional outlet. They see it as a way to control their sexuality, be feminine, but also be smart and powerful,” continued Provokr.
BOMBSHELLS AND DOLLIES features interviews from Dita Von Teese, the world-renowned icon of the contemporary pinup and burlesque culture. Alongside are insightful and colorful interviews from fashion designer, Bernie Dexter, and pinup models with cult social media followings, including Cherry Dollface (It’s a Rockabilly World!), Miss Rockwell De’Vil (founder of “Miss Viva Las Vegas”), Miss Victory Violent and Lisa Love.Suhagra
